What is the definition of poultry meat business?
Poultry Meat Business means a business that is directly involved in the breeding, hatching, rearing, catching, transportation or processing of live birds of poultry meat species for commercial purposes. The business must as part of its activities handle live poultry meat birds or live breeding stock of poultry meat birds. It therefore excludes the following:
- Businesses which in no part of their operation have direct contact with live commercial poultry species, such as feed manufacturers or secondary poultry meat processors who do not also produce or breed commercial meat poultry species;
- Pharmaceutical companies and other input or service providers to the industry who do not themselves handle birds of poultry meat species for commercial purposes;
- Research or teaching institutions, whose main purpose is to conduct research and development, or to provide educational services, even if such businesses maintain live poultry species and ultimately sell or slaughter them for human consumption and;
- Associations or organisations which do not themselves undertake the commercial breeding, hatching, rearing, catching, transportation of live birds of poultry meat species, or the primary processing of birds of poultry meat species, even if their members do.
What is the definition of poultry meat employee?
Poultry Meat Employee means an employee of a Poultry Meat Business whose job is directly related to the business’s commercial poultry meat production supply chain activities. It includes poultry meat primary processing and further processing staff, sales and marketing staff, staff involved in rendering or pet food manufacturing based on poultry products that are produced by the business and feed milling operations of a vertically integrated Poultry Meat Business. In the case of the ACGC, it is the sum of the total farm workforce of all members of the ACGC.

Commercial poultry meat species means poultry meat species used for commercial purposes, which include chicken, duck and turkey.
