What does the ACMF do for members?
REPRESENTATION
The ACMF represents members in matters including animal health, biosecurity, food standards and safety, animal welfare, sustainability, workforce, trade and a range of other areas affecting the Australian chicken industry. Our Strategic Plan, supported by an Annual Operating Plan clearly lays out how are working to achieve this.
ADVOCACY
The ACMF advocates on behalf of members for effective and strategic policy and standard setting, as well as supporting the chicken meat industry on existing and emerging issues so members can remain competitive and profitable.
Our advocacy work provides an opportunity for members to influence government at a federal and state level, to facilitate outcomes that benefit members, and to steer the direction of the chicken meat industry as a whole. We make strong, effective representation to Ministers, government departments and agencies, regulators, authorities, and other stakeholders who have a role in determining the frameworks within which our members operate.
INDUSTRY R&D
The ACMF provides strategic direction to relevant research and development bodies to ensure our members benefit from their work. We collaborate closely with AgriFutures, via their Chicken Meat Advisory Panel, to achieve positive and strategic research and development outcomes for the industry, and to ensure that R&D outcomes are adopted through suitable extension and adoption activities.
PROTECTION & RESPONSE
As a peak industry body, the ACMF is a signatory to the Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement (EADRA) and a member of Animal Health Australia. This is a contractual agreement on behalf of members that works to reduce the risk of disease incursions and manages the industry-wide response if there is an emergency animal disease outbreak such as High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Australia. The ACMF also proactively and reactively manages a wide range of issues on behalf of members, engaging and consulting as ‘hot’ issues emerge or evolve, and working to deescalate issues and mitigate their impact.
MEMBER ENGAGEMENT
Members have the opportunity to join various consultation groups run by the ACMF, which operate to ensure a representative diversity of views and enable strong member participation, whilst ensuring involvement from appropriate subject matter experts. The structure of these groups reflects the strategic pillars under which the ACMF operates. They operate at a national level but can also be convened at state-based levels where the need arises.

- Pharmaceutical companies and other input or service providers to the industry who do not themselves handle birds of poultry meat species for commercial purposes;
- Research or teaching institutions, whose main purpose is to conduct research and development, or to provide educational services, even if such businesses maintain live poultry species and ultimately sell or slaughter them for human consumption and;
- Associations or organisations which do not themselves undertake the commercial breeding, hatching, rearing, catching, transportation of live birds of poultry meat species, or the primary processing of birds of poultry meat species, even if their members do.

It includes poultry meat primary processing and further processing staff, sales and marketing staff, staff involved in rendering or pet food manufacturing based on poultry products that are produced by the business and feed milling operations of a vertically integrated Poultry Meat Business. In the case of the ACGC, it is the sum of the total farm workforce of all members of the ACGC.

Commercial poultry meat species means poultry meat species used for commercial purposes, which include chicken, duck and turkey.
