‘Hatching Careers’ - School Project Guidelines
The ACMF Hatching Careers School Project was available for schools as an educational resource and to promote career opportunities in the chicken meat industry to primary and secondary students. Please note that while 16 schools were provided with financial assistance in 2009 to facilitate undertaking this project, there is at this stage no further financial support available to assist schools in this way.
Nevertheless, we hope that the material provided on this page will assist you and your students to tackle this interesting and rewarding experiment.
The Hatching Careers School Project comprises two key resources:
1) The Hatching Careers Selective Breeding Project (secondary students)
2) The ‘From Hatchery to Home’ DVD Resource (primary and secondary students)
Click here to download guidelines on how to conduct the selective breeding project and details of the industry DVD class resource materials. Please note that the financial assistance offered in the document is no longer available.
Click here to read about how the Hatching Careers Selective Breeding Project was successfully conducted at James Ruse Agricultural High School in Carlingford, NSW. They busted, and you can too, a commonly-held belief about Australian chickens and in the process demonstrated the dramatic effects achieved through decades of selective breeding efforts.
How to Get Started:
If your school wishes to conduct this project please review the project guidelines first of all. Note that financial assistance to purchase equipment etc (mentioned in the printed documentation/PDF documents) is no longer offered.
