Chicken Meat and Eggs: Two Separate Industries

If you are not familiar with the chicken meat industry, you may well believe that the egg industry and the chicken meat industry are the same or closely related operations. After all, both industries grow chickens and many backyard chickens are kept for eggs and ultimately for meat as well. So it is important to clarify up front that the only eggs produced in the chicken meat industry are those needed to produce the generation of chickens that provide the meat that so many Australians enjoy on an almost daily basis (to read more …).

The egg industry is quite separate and in fact uses very different breeds of chickens, not surprisingly these are breeds that have been bred selectively over many generations to exhibit optimal egg producing characteristics. This difference in the breed of chickens was clearly demonstrated in a recent school experiment (to read more … and more).
