Chicken Meat and Eggs: Two Separate Industries
If you are not familiar with the chicken meat industry, you may well believe that the egg industry and the chicken meat industry are the same or closely related operations. After all, both industries grow chickens and many backyard chickens are kept for eggs and ultimately for meat as well. The egg industry is quite separate and in fact uses very different breeds of chickens, not surprisingly these are breeds that have been bred selectively over many generations to exhibit optimal egg producing characteristics.
