ACMF reviewed its antibiotics policy in 2017. The industry's position statement on the Responsible Use of Antibiotics in the Australian Chicken Meat Industry is available as a PDF document here. The industry trusts that this revised statement demonstrates clearly the responsible use of antibiotics and, in particular, to the principle of providing appropriate animal care that minimises animal disease and suffering while also ensuring judicious antimicrobial use that minimises antimicrobial resistance development, thereby preserving the effectiveness of these products for humans and animals alike. Integral to the industry’s position in this respect is the recognition that effective antibiotics are a precious resource that the chicken industry has a role to play in protecting for future generations.
